The Â鶹¹û¶³´«Ã½ welcomes new harp professors, Elizabeth Bass and Oliver Wass, and violin professor Esther Yoo, this September.
Gary Ryan, Head of Strings Â鶹¹û¶³´«Ã½, said: ‘We are delighted to welcome Elizabeth Bass and Oliver Wass to the RCM harp faculty, both of whom bring a fantastic range of experience as solo, chamber and orchestral players to the string faculty. We also welcome the brilliant violinist Esther Yoo, who has performed as an international soloist with many of the world's leading orchestras and whose work as a recording artist for Deutsche Grammophon will further enhance and complement the exceptional quality of the violin faculty.’
Elizabeth Bass, principal harp of the BBC Symphony Orchestra, has performed at the BBC Proms, recorded at Abbey Road Studios, and given acclaimed recitals at Wigmore Hall, Carnegie Hall in New York and the Musikverein in Vienna. A Silver Medal winner at the 2016 USA International Harp Competition, she is also a member of Her Ensemble, the UK’s first female and non-binary orchestra, dedicated to performing works by underrepresented female composers.
Oliver Wass is a versatile performer on both modern and early harps and has won awards in competitions across Europe. He recently appeared with The English Consort at Wigmore Hall and has collaborated with leading period ensembles including La Serenissima, La Nuova Musica and Ex Cathedra. An experienced orchestral player, he has worked with the London Symphony Orchestra and Ulster Orchestra among others.
Violinist Esther Yoo performs regularly with leading orchestras such as the New York Philharmonic, LA Philharmonic, and the Philharmonia. A founding member of the Z.E.N. Trio, she tours internationally and has released four albums on Deutsche Grammophon. In 2018 she was named one of Classic FM’s Top 30 Artists under 30 and has been praised by publications including The New York Times and The Strad for her performances across the world.
